Requirements:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following standards:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Maintain a clean driving record with no recent major violations
  • Successfully complete Abbott’s Driver Training Program and Entry-Level Driver Training (if applicable)
  • Pass a DOT physical examination
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Comply with drug and alcohol testing requirements as mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States

In addition, candidates must demonstrate a commitment to safety, professionalism, and compliance with all federal and company regulations.

Responsibilities:
As a Motorcoach Operator, you play a critical role in delivering safe, professional transportation. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Plan driving routes in advance to ensure timely and efficient travel
  • Safely pick up and drop off passengers at scheduled times and designated locations
  • Assist with loading and unloading luggage, mobility devices, and other personal items
  • Monitor traffic, weather, and road conditions to make informed, real-time adjustments
  • Adapt routes as necessary to avoid delays, construction zones, or unsafe conditions
  • Maintain a clean and professional environment inside and outside the motorcoach
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with passengers, group leaders, and dispatch
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company policies related to safety, documentation, and professional conduct

Additionally, you are expected to represent Abbott Bus Lines with professionalism and a strong commitment to passenger safety at all times.

Skills:
To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate strong driving ability, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety. Key skills include:

  • Thorough understanding of DOT regulations and motorcoach operation standards
  • Ability to safely operate a motorcoach in various environments, including highways, cities, rural areas, and inclement weather
  • Strong situational awareness in changing traffic, road, and weather conditions
  • Problem-solving skills to adjust routes, handle delays, and make quick, safe decisions
  • Problem-solving ability to adjust routes, manage delays, and make safe, timely decisions
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including detailed itineraries and special group requirements
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills in English, including reading road signs, writing reports, and interacting professionally with passengers and staff
  • Proven ability to maintain a safe and clean driving record
  • A positive, customer-first attitude that treats every group with professionalism and respect

Physical Demands:
This position requires physical stamina and awareness to ensure safe vehicle operation and passenger assistance. Specifically, candidates must be able to:

  • Remain seated for extended periods while driving
  • Frequently bend, crouch, kneel, and stoop when handling luggage or conducting vehicle inspections
  • Stand, walk, climb steps, and maintain balance during passenger boarding and safety checks
  • Use vision and hearing effectively to monitor road conditions and communicate clearly
  • Safely lift, push, and pull heavy bags or equipment, typically weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Refuel motorcoaches and assist with basic maintenance duties when necessary
